Lord’s Top 35 Finish Leads Yellowjacket Runners at Shootout (Oct. 2, 2004)
(Complete Results)

BOULDER, CO – Sara Lord placed thirty-fifth Saturday to lead the MSU Billings women’s team to a fourth place finish in the non-Division I team race at the Rocky Mountain Shootout.  Lord finished the 5.8K race in 24:09 to pace three Yellowjackets in the top 50.

“The women had a real good race,” said Yellowjacket head coach Dave Coppock.  “Sara was kind of our big star today on a muddy, hilly course.  The course was tough and the high altitude slowed our times a little, but they ran a pretty good race.”

Lord (Jr., Billings, MT) topped the Lady Jackets for the first time this season, 12 seconds ahead of Heidi Robertson (Sr., Great Falls, MT) who finished in 40th place.  Chelsea Lynnes (Sr., Miles City, MT), Tiffany Piplica (So., Riverton, WY) and Diana Davis (Jr., Kalispell, MT) rounded out the Lady Yellowjackets’ top five runners.  Lynnes placed 48th in 25:03, Piplica placed 62nd in 25:47 and Davis placed 77th in 26:44.

Western State won the women’s non-Division I race with 23 points.  Colorado won the Division I race with 16 points.  Colorado’s Renee Metivier took top individual honors in 20:21.  Colorado and Western State swept the top six spots.

The Lady Jackets ran nine runners in the race.  Mandy Brown (Sr., Wolf Point, MT) finished in 79th place in 26:50; Tracie Overberg (Jr., Dodson, MT) placed 81st in 27:00; Kristy Burns (So., Livingston, MT) placed 84th in 27:56 and Kisa Kron (Fr., Livingston, MT) placed 89th in 28:05.

The Yellowjacket men’s team was led by Sam Hartpence (So., Custer, SD) for the second-straight week.  He finished in 92nd place, covering the 8K course in 30:55.  Scott Brown (Sr., Billings, MT) finished 98th in 31:27; Ryan Archibald finished 104th in 32:21; Joe Kragt finished 105th in 32:22; and Jared Rensvold finished 108th in 32:43.

Colorado won the men’s Division I team race with 15 points, and Western State took the non-Division I race with 16 points.  Western State’s Kelly Christensen captured top individual honors in a time of 24:40.

After racing for four weeks in a row, both Yellowjacket teams will be idle until they host the Pacific West Championships on October 23.
