Yellowjackets Blast Coyotes Twice in Five (Apr. 13, 2005)
Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings quickly dispatched visiting Albertson College on Wednesday, winning via the eight run rule in both games of the doubleheader.  The Yellowjackets pounded out 27 hits in just eight offensive innings, winning 12-0 and 15-4 in five innings both times.

MSU Billings improved to 28-12 overall, dropping Albertson to 15-22.  The Yellowjackets next play on April 25 when they host a non-conference doubleheader against Minot State.  MSUB resumes PacWest play on April 30 against Western New Mexico at Cenex Stadium.  The Mustangs will be in town for Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders that will likely determine whether the Yellowjackets qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

The Jackets used a nine run third inning to run away from the Coyotes in the first game.  Joey Ehnes (Sr., Great Falls, MT) pitched three no-hit innings for the win.  She struck out five of the nine batters she faced, moving her career strikeout total over 600.  Ehnes also tied her own school record for single season victories at 21.

Cami Rainey (Sr., Terreton, ID) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.  She drove in two and scored once.  Ehnes was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Rachel Quarnburg (So., Billings, MT) went 2-for-2 and scored three times.  Jenna Haacke (Fr., Billings, MT) went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI.

Theresa Campbell (Sr., Great Falls, MT) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a home run.  Her line drive shot into the hill beyond the leftfield fence was her ninth homer of the season, giving her the PacWest Conference lead and setting a school single season record.

Albertson’s Ashley Bowman took the loss after giving up 11 hits and 10 runs in 2 2/3 innings.  Heather Kirtley was 1-for-2 for the Coyotes’ only hit of the game.  Megan McCrae (Sr., Bradon, Manitoba) finished the final two innings on the mound for the Jackets, giving up one hit and walking one.

After the Yellowjackets jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two, the ‘Yotes got to the starter McCrae for four runs in the top of the second.  She allowed three hits in 1 1/3 innings.  Two of the hits were pop singles in the infield.

Ehnes replaced McCrae and pitched 2 2/3 innings.  She struck out five without allowing a hit to earn her school-record 22nd victory.  Jordan Waverek (Sr., Kalispell, MT) closed the final inning.

The Yellowjackets took a 7-4 lead in the second inning on a three-run Campbell home run, her second of the day and tenth of the season.  After two swing-and-miss changeups set her back in the count, Campbell again deposited the ball onto the hill beyond the leftfield fence.  The Jackets blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth with eight runs.

Rainey was 3-for-4 and homered twice in the game for her fifth and six home runs of the season.  She drove in four RBI and scored twice.  Sara Hanley (Sr., Kalispell, MT) went 2-for-3 with a run.  Ehnes was 2-for-2 with two runs and a home run, her sixth of the year.  Campbell was 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs.  Layne Pavey (Sr., Spokane, WA) went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run.

The Coyotes’ Katie Theisen was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Lindzi Wasko took the loss after giving up four runs in 1 1/3 innings.  Tiana Siddoway pitched the final 2 2/3 and was hammered for 10 hits and 11 runs.
