Ehnes and Pavey Named to All-Region Team (May 7, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings juniors Joey Ehnes and Layne Pavey received two more honors today when they were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region second team.  Both earned Pacific West Conference all-conference honors earlier in the week when Ehnes was named to the first team and Pavey to the second team.  The Yellowjackets finished 27-28 overall in just their fourth year, winning six straight and 13 of their final 16 to close the season.

Ehnes, a junior pitcher/second baseman from Great Falls, Mont., set school single season records with 21 victories and 261 strikeouts as a pitcher.  She also had a solid year at the plate and was named to the NFCA All-Region team as a utility player.  Ehnes ranked second in the PacWest for both wins and strikeouts, fourth for ERA (1.90), second for opposing batting average (.211) and second for innings pitched (232).  Her 21-16 record ranked 27th in the nation for victories in the most recent NCAA statistical rankings.  She was named the Yellowjackets’ Most Valuable Defensive Player and also led MSUB offensively with 30 RBI and 20 runs scored.

Pavey, a junior catcher from Spokane, Wash., was the PacWest home run champion with eight homers.  One of the region’s most dangerous hitters, she batted .307 with 28 RBI and 24 runs scored.  Pavey was named the Yellowjackets’ co-Most Valuable Offensive Player after finishing ranked fourth in the PacWest for RBI and eighth for runs scored.  She also ranked first in the league for total bases (83) and sixth for slugging percentage (.509).  Of the five catchers earning all-region honors, three were from the PacWest Conference.
