Lady Yellowjackets Host No. 13 Western Washington Wednesday (December 17, 2002)

BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings women’s basketball team will host 13th-ranked Western Washington Wednesday night.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium.

The Yellowjackets will be trying to extend their school record 25-game home winning streak as well as pick up a big West Region victory when they host the Vikings.  MSUB will also be looking to prevent a little déjà vu.  The last time the Lady Jackets lost at Alterowitz was January 4, 2001, 84-64 to Western Washington.

MSU Billings enters the pivotal regional match-up with a 6-2 overall record and a 5-1 record within the region.  The Yellowjackets are paced by senior Natalie Visger who averages 15.9 points and eight rebounds per game.  Visger also leads the Jackets with 24 assists.  Fellow senior Jessica Bachmann is adding 13.1 points and four rebounds per game, while Jessie Henigman and Kayla Frize both average over seven points per game.  Henigman also has 31 blocked shots in eight games.

The Yellowjackets’ only Division II loss of the year came at Sonoma State last week.  Western Washington enters the game with a 4-1 record with the Vikings only loss coming to No. 7 North Dakota State.  WWU has five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Stacey Miller’s 15.8 ppg and Susan Rodgers’s 15.4 ppg.

The Vikings have dominated their opponents in their four wins this season.  WWU is averaging 80.6 points per game while holding its opponents to 51.2 ppg.  The Yellowjackets, on the other hand, have won with defense.  They are averaging 60.6 points per game while allowing 59.1.
