Yellowjackets Fall to Hawaii-Hilo in Five Games (November 9, 2002)

BILLINGS, MT – A night after sweeping the University of Hawaii-Hilo 3-0, MSU Billings lost a marathon match as the Vulcans prevailed 34-36,30-23, 25-30, 33-31, 17-15.

The teams were within a few points of each other for most of all five games, with the score sea-sawing back and forth all night.  The match lasted two hours and forty minutes as neither team could pull away in any game.

The Yellowjackets were led by Olivia Munro’s 21 kills and 40 digs.  Those 40 digs were good for the third-best performance in the conference this year.

Also notching double-digit kills were Katrina Dahlgren (15), Cortney Metzler (15), and Kari Gerretsen (12).  Dahlgren added five solo blocks and two block assists while Sandy Beal posted one solo block and a match-high eight block assists.  Gerretsen and Krissy Janney each picked up 23 digs, and Libero Mandi Paulson added 19.

The loss was the first of the season to the Vulcans.  MSUB won both conference matches of the season against UHH this season.
