Yellowjackets Win First PacWest Road Game (February 23, 2003)

KANEOHE, HI – The MSU Billings softball team recorded its first PacWest win in Hawaii on Sunday, defeating Hawaii Pacific 4-2 in the first game of a double-header.  The Yellowjackets lost game two 3-1.

Before the double-header, that was scheduled to be played on Saturday but postponed because of rain, the Yellowjackets and Sea Warriors concluded the game that was suspended by rain on Friday.  The Yellowjackets held a 5-2 lead entering the fifth inning, but lost 6-5 in ten innings.

MSUB gave up two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to force extra innings.  Joey Ehnes pitched 9 2/3 innings in picking up the loss.  She allowed six walks and four earned runs while striking out seven.  Cami Rainey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Michelle Falsken went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.  Rainey, Ehnes and Meghan O’Donnell each doubled in the game.  O’Donnell is leading the Yellowjackets in hitting through the first six games, batting .333.

Megan McCrae spread seven hits over seven innings in the third game of the weekend to earn her first win of the season.  She walked seven and struck out six as MSUB won for the first time on the road in the PacWest.  They won three conference games at home last season, their first in the PacWest.

The Ehnes sisters, Joey and Terilee, provided the offensive punch for the Yellowjackets.  Terilee went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.  Joey was 1-for-3 with a run scored.  Falsken and Sara Hanley also plated runs for the Jackets.

In the final game of the series, Hawaii Pacific tagged McCrae for four hits and two runs in the first two innings en route to a 3-1 win.  Jordan Waverek replaced McCrae, allowing two hits and an earned run in four innings of work.

The Yellowjackets tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second when Christy Wankel drove in Terilee Ehnes.  They couldn’t piece together another run in the game, however, and gave up a run in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the third.

MSU Billings is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the PacWest.  Hawaii Pacific is 8-2, 3-1.  The Yellowjackets are schedule to play at BYU-Hawaii on Monday and Tuesday with games starting at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. HST each day.  The Jackets won three of four games against the Seasiders last season.
