Each week we will highlight a
Yellowjacket student-athlete who excelled during the
previous week. Below is a list of the
"Yellowjackets of the Week" for the 2006-2007
academic year.

2007-2008 Yellowjackets of the Week:
Terina Stacks,
Softball, Mar. 18
Stacks was
named Great Northwest Athletic Conference
Player of the Week this week as she
had a team-high eight hits in 19 at bats
last week for a .421 average. She hit
home runs in back-to-back games in the two
victories over WOU on Saturday. The
first home run was the game-winner in a 2-1
decision and her second knotted the game at
three as MSUB went on for a 6-4 win.
Steve Scott, Baseball, Mar. 13
Scott went
2-0 this past week at the RussMatt
Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. He
struck out 20, including setting the
school-record and tying the GNAC record with
15 strikeouts in a 4-3 win over Mary.
For his efforts, he was named GNAC
Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Leslie Davis, Softball, Mar. 3, 2008
had a solid week at the CWU Invitational as she led the team with a
.500 average, 11 hits, two doubles, one home run and five RBI.
She slugged a team-best .727 and had an on base percentage of .522.
James Lester, Baseball, Feb. 26, 2008
Lester had a solid pitching debut in the
Yellowjackets' season opener last week against British Columbia.
Lester went five innings, allowing five hits, one earned run an
three strikeouts in a 3-2 victory to open the season.
Kacie
Vanderloos, Track and Field, Feb. 19, 2008
She had an outstanding GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championship as
she finished second in the shot put in the Yellowjackets' first GNAC
Indoor Championship. Vanderloos had a personal record
11.75 – 38-6 3/4 for the event.
Alira
Carpenter, Women's Basketball, Feb. 12, 2008
She had another outstanding week for the Lady Jackets. In two
games, she averaged 22.5 points, was 15 of 41 from the field, made
five three-pointers and was a perfect 10 of 10 from the line.
She also was named third team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic
All-District.
Shantell
Marquis, Women's Basketball, Feb. 4, 2008
Sophomore Shantell Marquis (Cascade, Mont.) had
14 points, 10 rebounds and tied her career-high with nine assists in
a 69-56 victory over Western Oregon last Thursday. On
Saturday, she led the team with 15 points and four steals in a
heartbreaking 68-67 loss to Saint Martin's.
Ryan Ceynar,
Men's Track and Field, Jan. 28, 2008
Freshman
Ryan Ceynar (Glendive,
Mont.) led the Yellowjacket
men's indoor track team this past
weekend at the Montana
State Open with a seventh-place finish in
the 800 meters. Ceynar finished with a
time of 2:12.65 and was running against
mostly Division I competition from Montana
and Montana State.
John Brooks,
Men's Basketball, Jan. 22, 2008
Freshman
John Brooks (Perris, Calif.) led the
Yellowjackets this past week with 48 points,
including a career-high 32 points against
Western Oregon. In that game, he was
10 of 22 from the field and 6 of 13 from
beyond the arc and a perfect 6 of 6 from the
line.
Shantell
Marquis, Women's Basketball, Jan. 14, 2008
Marquis, a sophomore from Cascade, Mont., netted a career-high 20
points in Thursday's 58-49 conference win over previously undefeated
Central Washington University. In the game Marquis shot
7-of-13 from the floor and was 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Marquis recorded game-highs pulling down eight rebounds and nabbing
five steals. The Lady Jackets wrapped up the week with a 69-67
GNAC win over Western Washington University. In the contest
Marquis netted eight points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out a
game-high seven assists. On the season Marquis is averaging
9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She also is averaging a
team-leading 2.85 steals per game.
Alira
Carpenter, Women's Basketball, Jan. 7, 2008
Carpenter, a junior guard from Lewistown averaged 26.5 points per
game in a split with the Alaska schools over the weekend. The
Lady Jackets fell 68-66 to No. 7 UAA and rebounded with a 60-51 win
over UAF. In the game against the Nanooks, she was 6 of 9 from
long range-one off her career high. Carpenter is averaging a
conference-leading 19.2 points per game. For the year, she is
35 of 80 from beyond the arc for a team-leading 44 percent and is 30
of 36 from the charity stripe for 83 percent.
Alira
Carpenter, Women's Basketball, Dec. 31, 2007
Carpenter, a junior guard from Lewistown, Mont., eclipsed the 1,000
career-point mark in Saturday's 73-59 loss against No. 12 Chico
State University. Carpenter joins just 18 other Lady
Yellowjackets who have accomplished this feat. In Friday's
loss to Sonoma State University Carpenter scored 11 points and
grabbed five rebounds in the game. On Saturday Carpenter
netted a game-high 23 points off 9-of-17 shooting from the floor.
For the week, she drilled five three pointers pushing her career
total to 159. She now stands in fourth place in the record
books for career three-pointers made. Carpenter averaged 17
points and four rebounds per game over the weekend and was named to
the Hampton Inn & Suites Basketball Classic All-Tournament team.
Troy Ruff,
Men's Basketball, Dec. 24, 2007
Ruff, a sophomore forward from Custer, Mont., had a steady week for
the Yellowjackets averaging 13 points and 3.67 rebounds per game in
a trio of losses at home. Ruff posted career-bests in points
and rebounds in this last week's games. Ruff has come off the
Jackets' bench to average 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20.1
minutes of play. Ruff has been consistent from both the field
and long range shooting 41 percent and 40 percent respectively.
Ruff has knocked down 17 three-pointers on the season thus far.
Dani
Henderson, Women's Basketball, Dec. 17, 2007
Henderson, a sophomore forward from Reed Point, Mont., netted a
career-high 19 points in a 90-67 road loss against University of
Mary Saturday in Bismark, N. D. Henderson was 6-of-12 from the
field and matched her career-high knocking down two 3-pointers in
the game. Henderson also pulled down a game-high nine boards.
On the season Henderson is averaging 10 points and 5.4 rebounds per
game.
Lexi Halvorson,
Track and Field, Dec. 10, 2007
Halvorson, a freshman from Billings, Mont., picked up a fourth place
finish in the shot put at the Fall Classic hosted by Black Hills
State University last week. Halvorson threw for a distance of
11.96 meters, currently ranking her second in the Great Northwest
Athletic Conference standings. The meet was the first ever
NCAA track and field competition for MSUB as the team was a member
of the NAIA back in the 1960's and 1970's.
Shantell
Marquis, Women's Basketball, Dec. 3, 2007
Marquis, a sophomore guard from Cascade, Mont., assisted the Lady
Jackets in a 67-55 road win against Colorado School of Mines on
Saturday. The feisty defender posted a double-double of 10
points and 10 rebounds in the game and recorded a game-high five
steals. Marquis also handed out a game-high four assists.
For the season, Marquis is averaging eight points and a team-leading
5.8 boards per game. She also leads the Lady Jackets averaging
3.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
Aaron Terry,
Men's Basketball, Nov. 26, 2007
Terry, a freshman guard from Moreno Valley, Calif., had a
career-high 21 points in games against St. Cloud State and
University of Nebraska-Omaha over the weekend. Terry averaged
8.5 rebounds and 1.75 steals per game for the week. Terry was
15-of-37 from the field for the week for 40 percent. On the
season Terry is averaging 15.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Jessica Lechner,
Volleyball, Nov. 12, 2007
Lechner, a junior middle blocker from Pompey's Pillar, Mont., led
the Jackets to a 3-2 win over GNAC opponent Seattle Pacific on
Thursday. Lechner posted a career-high 18 kills in the game to
average 3.6 kills per game. For the week she had 26 kills for
a 2.89 kills per game average with a .221 hitting percentage.
Lechner also recorded six blocks for an average 0.67 blocks per
game.
Sam Charles,
Men's Soccer, Nov. 5, 2007
Charles, a sophomore forward from Weymouth, England was named the
GNAC Player of the Year scoring 19 goals and 41 points.
Charles led the Jackets to a 13-4-1 overall record. The team
posted a 5-2-1 mark in the GNAC. Charles ranks first in the
school record history for goals scored in a single season (19),
total points in a single season (41), and for consecutive games with
at least one goal scored (8).
Tyler Nicholas,
Men's Golf, Oct. 8, 2007
Nicholas, a senior from Sheridan, Wyo., carded rounds of 74 and 76
at the Hampton Inn/Palace City Classic hosted by Dakota Wesleyan
over the weekend. His 6-over 150 was good for fourth place in
the individual standings and led the Yellowjackets to a third place
finish at the eight-team tourney. It was a strong showing for
the Yellowjackets, who were playing in the first and only tournament
of the fall. Because of a late coaching change, the
Yellowjackets were forced to cancel two of their three fall
tournaments. MSUB made the most of their one fall event and
should be positioned to compete well during the spring schedule.
Brittney
Sandau, Women's Soccer, Oct. 1, 2007
Sandau, a senior midfielder from Billings, scored two goals on
Saturday to carry the Yellowjackets to a 3-1 win at Northwest
Nazarene University. The win was the first road conference win
for the Lady Jackets since joining the Great Northwest Athletic
Conference and also broke a three-game winless streak. MSUB
moved from fifth place in the GNAC standings into a tie for third
place. Sandau opened the scoring in the 15th minute then broke
a 1-1 tie with the game winner in the 53rd minute. The goals
were Sandau's sixth and seventh of the season and 26th and 27th of
her career. She is currently fourth in school history for both
career points and career goals.
Devon Crotteau,
Volleyball, Sept. 24, 2007
Crotteau, a sophomore outside hitter from Casper, Wyo., averaged 5.1
kills per game to lead MSU Billings to two Great Northwest Athletic
Conference road wins in Alaska. On Thursday, Crotteau knocked
down 18 kills on 53 attempts in a 3-1 win at Alaska Fairbanks.
On Saturday, she drilled a career-high 23 kills on a .211 attack
percentage in a 3-1 win at Alaska Anchorage. She also had 19
digs and four blocks against the Seawolves. The two wins kept
MSU Billings in first place in the GNAC at 5-1.
Men's Soccer Defensive Line, Sept. 17, 2007

This week's honor goes to the entire MSUB
men's soccer defensive unit. The
Yellowjackets continued to pitch shutouts,
including a 1-0 win over nationally-ranked
Seattle University, the program's first-ever
win over a ranked team. As a defensive
line, the Yellowjackets have conceded just one goal while the
offense has scored 18. In seven games, MSUB has allowed just
42 shots total with 17 on goal. The defense leads the
conference posting six shutouts, and has a goals against average of
0.17.
Jarred
Rensvold, Cross Country, Sept. 10, 2007
Rensvold, a senior captain from Wolf Point, Mont., ran the
second-fastest 8K time of his MSUB career on Saturday to place
seventh at the South Dakota School of Mines Invitational. He
posted a 28:33 to prevent a clean sweep by Black Hills State.
Rensvold's seventh place finish broke up the eleven BHSU runners who
claimed 11 of the top 12 places.
Alicia Cazemier,
Volleyball, Sept. 3, 2007
Cazemier, a senior middle blocker from Vauxhall, Alberta, had 73
kills, 35 digs, 16 blocks and six service aces to lead the
Yellowjackets to four wins in the Days Inn-Denver West Oredigger Classic in Denver over the weekend. Cazemier
averaged 4.29 kills per game and hit .275 (73-24-178) in wins
over Colorado School of Mines, Mesa State, Western State and
Western New Mexico. She had 22 kills, two short of her career
high, and hit .439 in Saturday’s win over WNMU. MSU Billings was one of just two teams to
go 4-0 at the Oredigger Classic. Cazemier was named to the
all-tournament team, the only Yellowjacket to receive the
honor, and on Monday was named the GNAC player of the week.
Cazemier entered 2007 as the career school record holder for total
blocks, solo blocks, and hitting percentage. With 15 block
assists last weekend, she now also holds that school record with
291.
Sam Charles,
Men's Soccer, Aug. 27, 2007
Charles, a sophomore forward from Weymouth, England, scored three
goals in a pair of Yellowjacket wins on the opening weekend of the
season. On Thursday he netted a second half goal in a 2-0 win
at Colorado Christian. On Sunday, Charles scored both goals in
a 2-0 win at Mesa State. The two wins tie the school record
for consecutive wins at three dating back to last year's final game.
They also give MSUB its first 2-0 start to a season.
