BILLINGS, Mont. -  Montana State Billings (22-8) got three Christmas gifts as they swept the University of Mary (5-18) 8-2, 8-2 Wednesday afternoon.  The Yellowjackets made it nine wins in a row, beat UM for the first time at Cenex Stadium and Steph Gosselin broke the career record for RBI’s.  MSUB hits the road to play GNAC rival Central Washington, Saturday, Mar. 21.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at noon.

In game one, Terina Stacks led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Gosselin then ripped a single up the middle to score Stacks.  It was Gosselin’s 92nd career RBI breaking the record of 91.  In the second inning, Kelly Parsons legged out a double to center field.  With two outs, Stacks laced a double to left field to score Parsons.  That was the 92nd career RBI for Stacks tying her with Gosselin for first place.

Mary got things rolling with two outs in the top of the third.  Samantha Antolin singled to left center field.  Maegan Lunn stepped in the box and lifted the ball just over the glove of left fielder Shay Oberg for a two-run home run.

In the bottom of the fifth, MSUB broke the game open.  Crystal Bentley smacked a double and scored off a single by Oberg.  Gosselin singled to center field to move Oberg to second.  A wild pitch advanced both runners, who then scored off a double to left field by Rebekah Tsatsa.  Amanda Hood came into run for Tsatsa and moved to third on a wild pitch.

Leslie Davis drew a walk and moved to second on a pass ball that allowed Hood to score.  Following a pitching change, Parsons just crushed the ball over the fence in dead center field to make it 8-2.

Stacks went 3-for-4, Gosselin had two hits, Tsatsa was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs while Parsons was 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two runs.  Lisa Moore (5-1) gave up six hits, two runs, walked one and struck out 11 in seven innings.

In game two, MSUB struck gold in its first at-bat.  Stacks singled to center field and moved to second on a ground out by Amanda Goings.  Gosselin then singled up the middle to score Stacks and take back the career RBI record with 93.

In the third inning, Brenda Langston tied the game up at 1-1 with a solo shot to left center field.  In the bottom of the third, singles by Stacks and Goings and a walk to Gosselin loaded the bases.  Jenna VanEykeren hit a fielder’s choice that forced Gosselin out and scored Stacks.  Davis then doubled down the left field line to score Goings.

The Marauders answered in the fourth.  Antolin singled and then stole second.  Andrea Brunskill singled to center field to score Antolin.  That made it 3-2.  The Jackets would get that run back on a solo shot by Stevie Howard in the bottom of the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Gosselin singled to right field and moved to second on a ground out.  Davis doubled to left center field to score Gosselin.  Howard then ripped a single through the left side to score Davis and make it 6-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Mary started out by getting the first two batters out.  Gosselin and VanEykeren then hit back-to-back home runs to make it 8-2.  MSUB got a strike out and then hit a batter in the top of the seventh.  The Yellowjackets then got a strikeout and a ground out to end the game.

Stacks was 3-for-4 and score two runs, Gosselin went 3-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two runs while Davis was 3-for-4 and drove in a run.  Gosselin pushed her career RBI record to 94.  Kasie Conder (8-2) gave up five hits, two runs and struck out 13 in seven innings.

“Today was a good day for this team,” said head coach Anthony Stone.  “I’ve been talking about shoring up our defense for awhile now, and we came through in a big way with zero errors. And it’s not like Mary can’t hit, not at all. They have some pretty scary hitters in their lineup, and our pitchers did a good job of getting solid defensive results. Couple that with our hitters doing a great job of 2 strike and 2 out hitting, which makes for a very positive day. Take nothing away from Mary, they have gone toe to toe with some of the best teams in the nation and did well. Their record doesn’t show how talented they really are. With our upcoming series with Central Washington this weekend, I think this really helped us become a better team in all three facets of the game.”
