Falcons Down Jackets, Remain Perfect
Box Score
MSUB Season Stats

SEATTLE, Wash. – Third-ranked Seattle Pacific used a first half goal to defeat Montana State Billings 1-0 Thursday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer.  The Falcons improved their overall season record to 11-0-0 and their GNAC record to 5-0-0.

The loss dropped the Yellowjackets to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the GNAC.  They remain in fourth place in the conference standings.  Seattle Pacific moved into a tie with Seattle University for the league lead.

Fenwick

The Falcons’ Sarah Martinez, the top scorer in the GNAC, took a long pass from Meredith Teague in the 29th minute, made a cutback move and drilled her 13th goal of the season past Yellowjacket keeper Jordan Fenwick (Boise, Idaho).  That was all the Falcons needed to notch their 11th-straight win.

Fenwick did more than her share to keep the Yellowjackets in the game.  Seattle Pacific out-shot MSU Billings 26-1 in the game, including 18-0 shots on goal.  Fenwick made 17 saves, the fourth-highest single game total in school history.  She fended off the Falcons with eight first half saves and nine saves in the second half.

The Yellowjackets’ lone shot in the game came from Caitlyn Marrer (Glendale, Ariz.) in the second half.  Nine different Falcons fired off at least one shot at Fenwick with Martinez taking nine shots.

"Jordan obviously kept us in the game and gave us a chance," said Yellowjacket head coach Don Trentham.  "She made a lot of good saves and commanded the box.  Unfortunately we didn't create enough offense.  Only having one shot isn't going to cut it.  I thought the defense played well, and Jordan played well.  There were times when we created some possession, but we didn't get anything in our attack."

"At the end of the day, we're disappointed to not beat Seattle Pacific even though they're a very good team.  They're one of the teams to beat in the conference, and we're disappointed that we lost the game."

The Yellowjackets continue the tough road trip on Saturday with a noon kickoff at upstart Northwest Nazarene.  The Crusaders, who haven’t posted a winning record since 2001, are 6-3-1 overall and sit in third place in the conference with a 3-2-0 mark.  MSUB returns home to face Rocky Mountain College on Oct. 3 at Daylis Stadium.
