Woodin to Guide MSUB Golf

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State University Billings Athletics Director Dr. Gary Gray announced Wednesday that Kevin Woodin has been appointed the Yellowjackets’ new women’s golf coach.  Woodin is currently in his fourth season as MSUB’s head women’s basketball coach.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to coach the MSUB women’s golf team,” Woodin said.  “Golf has played an important role in my life, and I look forward to this new challenge.”

Woodin will coach the golf team before and after basketball seasons.  NCAA golf plays a split season with competitions in the fall and in the spring.  The Yellowjackets played four tournaments in the fall and will likely play at least three in the spring.

Woodin is not new to coaching golf.  From 1989 to 1994 he was the head boy’s golf coach at O’Dea High School in Seattle.  He led O’Dea to three team championships and was named the Metro League AA Coach of the Year three times.  He also spent two years as a volunteer assistant at O’Dea and two years as a volunteer assistant at Billings West High School.

The Libby, Mont., native played one year of collegiate golf at University of Montana before the men’s golf program was discontinued.  He transferred to Carroll College where he graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1987.  Woodin earned a master’s degree in athletics administration from Seattle Pacific University in 1992.

“I’m very pleased that Coach Woodin has agreed to lead our women’s golf program,” said Gray.  “I know he will put in the time, energy, and commitment that he currently does with our women’s basketball program.  Coach Woodin is an experienced coach who will do a great job leading our women’s golf team in the RMAC.  I know the student-athletes on our women’s golf team are very excited about the appointment of Coach Woodin.”
