Box Score
MSUB season
statistics
NAMPA, Idaho – Montana State Billings lost
its Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball opener on
Thursday, falling in four games 30-26, 30-21, 22-30, 30-23 at
Northwest Nazarene. The match was the first GNAC contest for
any MSU Billings sport since the school joined the conference.
The Yellowjackets had their four-match
winning streak snapped and fell to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the
GNAC. The Crusaders, who have been the surprise of the early
season, improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. NNU
was picked to finish sixth in the GNAC, but the Crusaders’ early
season start has garnered them votes in the AVCA national poll.

Four Crusaders notched double-digit kills
led by Cammy Dranginis’ 17. The sophomore blasted a .432 attack
percentage with just one error on 37 attempts. Lindsay Forseth,
Chelsea Pelton, and Loni Evenson also had at least 10 kills
each. NNU hit a combined .269 as a team and out-blocked the
Yellowjackets 14-4. The Crusaders hit over .300 in each of the
three games they won.
MSU Billings was led by Alicia
Cazemier’s (Vauxhall, Alberta) 19 kills. She hit .286 on 42
attempts. Devon
Crotteau (Casper, Wyo.) finished with 17 kills, and Jennifer Boe (Casper, Wyo.) added 13. The three combined for 49 of 60
Yellowjacket kills in the match. Stefania Aladjova (Sofia, Bulgaria) handed out 50 assists
and dropped in three of the Yellowjackets’ 11 service aces.
“We had more kills and were more aggressive
hitting than they were, and I thought Stefania did a good job of
decision making” said Yellowjacket head coach Sara Schaub. “But
we had 11 more errors than they did, and we can’t do that.”
“They did a good job moving their attackers
around and keeping the ball in play. They played like they
wanted to win. They’re a solid team all the way around, and
they have multiple attackers that do a good job. Their control
was very good, and they had relentless pursuit after every
ball.”
The Yellowjackets will have Friday as a
travel day before trying for their first GNAC win at two-time
defending conference champion Seattle Pacific on Saturday night.
Entering Thursday's match against Seattle, SPU had won
20-straight home conference matches dating to 2004. |
