Yellowjackets Shine at Bauer Invitational

     Results

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Montana State Billings men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the 2008 outdoor campaign with a bang.  Freshmen Lexi Halvorson and Kacie Vanderloos each had big events and Sarah Jackson had the lone win in for MSUB in the 800 meters on the women's side and senior Richie Pemberton won the 5000 meters for the men.

Halvorson placed second in the discus with a Great Northwest Athletic Conference season-best toss of 140-3.  Her mark was just 10 inches short of the provisional national qualifying standard in the discus.  In addition to Halvorson, Vanderloos placed fifth in the shot put.  Her mark of 38-2 ½ ranks second in the conference.

Jackson had the lone win on the women’s side for the Yellowjackets as she won the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.23.

On the men’s side, Pemberton won the 5000 meters in a time of 16:38.89.  He also was runner-up in the steeplechase with a time of 9:53.21 ranking him third in the spring in the GNAC.  In addition, freshman Jade Haynie finished second in the javelin with a throw of 170-6.

The Yellowjackets head to the Al Manuel Invitational at the University of Montana next Friday and Saturday.
