RICHLAND, Wash. – Montana State Billings split a pair of games on the second day of the CWU Invitational.  Western Oregon handed the Jackets a 9-0 defeat in the early game.  MSUB came back with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Western Washington in the nightcap.  With the split, the Jackets stand at 2-2 in the tournament and 4-5 overall this season.

The Wolves opened the scoring in the first inning with three runs which set the tone for the game.  MSUB hurler Terina Stacks (1-1) went four and one third innings, allowing eight hits, six runs – three earned, one walk and had two strikeouts.  Lindsey Trenery relieved Stack and went two and two thirds allowing seven hits, three earned runs, two walks and a strikeout.

WOU’s pitcher Christina Cooke (1-1) went the distance, scattering five hits, with a walk and punched out four.  Western Oregon added two more runs courtesy of home runs by Laura Safley and Jamie Becker in the fourth and fifth innings.  Becker added her second homer in the seventh to close the game.

Leslie Davis led the Yellowjackets with two hits, going 2 for 3 for the game.  Tyler Sutherland led the Wolves with three hits, a run scored and a double.

In the nightcap, the Yellowjackets responded with a 3-2 victory over Western Washington (6-4).  MSUB hurler Rebekah Tsatsa (2-1) pitched a complete game four hitter.  She allowed two earned runs, walked one and had four strikeouts.

The Yellowjackets opened the game in the first inning with one run scored on an error.  The Vikings committed two errors in the inning.

WWU got a run back in the top of the second, but a pair of RBI doubles by Leslie Davis and Shay Oberg in the bottom half gave the Jackets a 3-1 lead.

The Vikings cut the deficit to one run in fourth with a RBI double, but hit into an inning-ending double play in the fifth, as well as going down in order in the sixth and the seventh innings.

The Yellowjackets now will face Saint Martin’s and Central Washington on Saturday.
