Yellowjacket Softball Signs Second Recruit for 2008-09

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head softball coach, Tony Stone, announced Wednesday that Hamilton, Mont., native, Amanda Hood has signed a national letter of intent with the Yellowjackets.

“I think Amanda is one of the more fundamentally sound softball players to sign with us this year,” Stone said. “She has great softball awareness, and her versatility and speed will most certainly help us both on the base path and in the outfield. As well, she carries close to a 3.75 GPA in the classroom, which says a lot about her commitment to education. We are happy that Amanda chose Montana State University Billings and look forward to her contributions over the next four years.”

Hood played at Hamilton High School where she lettered all four years and was an all-conference selection as a junior, as well as academic all-state all four years.  She helped lead HHS to the conference championship in 2007 and the team finished third at state that year. 

As a senior, she hit .346 with eight RBIs, two doubles.  She 18 hits in 52 at bats with five walks and 14 runs scored.  She also was solid defensively as she committed just one error this season in 108 attempts.

In addition to high school softball, Hood also played club softball for the Montana Rockies in 2006-07.  The team was state champions in 2006 and earned a runner-up finish in 2007.  She also played for the Hamilton Heat in 2005. 

Hood joins pitcher Josie Grotbo of Helena as the second recruit for the 2008-09 season for the Yellowjackets.
