Charles Named GNAC Player of the Week

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings men’s soccer player Sam Charles has been tabbed the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of September 17-23.  The award is the program’s first of the season.

Charles, a forward from Weymouth, England, led the Yellowjackets to three conference wins last week downing Western Washington (2-1), No. 21 Seattle University (1-0), and Saint Martin’s (2-0).  For the week Charles scored four of the Yellowjackets five goals.  He had the game –winning goals against Seattle and Saint Martin’s and scored the go-ahead goal against the Vikings. 

Charles leads the GNAC in scoring with 23 points, scoring 11 goals and one assist.  He has also scored in all seven games this season breaking not only the Yellowjacket school record but also the GNAC record of consecutive games with at least one goal scored.

The Yellowjackets are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.  The Jackets travel to Washington for a trio of conference games this week.  MSUB will play at Seattle Pacific (4-0-3, 1-0-0) on Thursday followed by games at Western Washington (3-3-0, -1-0-0) on Saturday, and Seattle University (5-2-0, 0-1-0) on Monday.  The Yellowjackets next home game is scheduled for Saturday, September 29, when they host Colorado Christian University.
