Yellowjacket Soccer Left Out of NCAA Selection

BILLINGS, Mont.-  The Montana State Billings men’s soccer team waited anxiously for the NCAA Men’s Soccer Selection Committee to decide whether or not the team would be invited to its first ever NCAA Tournament berth only to be left out of the top four selected to the Far West Region Tournament.

Ranked as high as fourth in the first regional ranking released back on October 23, the Yellowjackets were on the bubble battling for the fourth and final spot only to have it taken away by Grand Canyon University.  The ‘Lopes finished their season with four road games in Hawaii, going 3-0-1 against the island teams.  Grand Canyon was 11-4-5 against in-region opponents, while MSUB was 10-2-1.

Earning the top seed was Cal State Dominguez Hills (17-2-0) who jumped two spots to first and will host this year’s regional tournament.  In second was Seattle University (15-2-1) followed by Sonoma State (17-3-1) in third and Grand Canyon in fourth (11-4-5).  The tournament is scheduled for Nov. 9 and 11 in Carson, Calif.

The Yellowjackets had a stellar season recording the program’s first ever winning season, finishing 13-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
