Jackets Third at Dakota-Wesleyan Tourney

MITCHELL, S.D.-  Montana State Billings men’s golfer Tyler Nicholas leads the Yellowjackets’ charge at the Hampton Inn/Palace City Classic shooting a first round two-over par 74 to sit in a four-way tie for fourth place following 18 holes of play.  The invitational wraps up Saturday in Mitchell, S.D. with a final 18 holes.

Tournament host, Dakota-Wesleyan shot a combined 293 after round one to hold a five-stroke lead over second place University of Sioux Falls.  The Yellowjackets had a balanced team effort and find themselves third in the eight-team field shooting a combined 304.

Dakota Wesleyan’s Tyler Evenson shot a first round five-under 67 to sit atop the individual leader board.  Just one stroke off the pace and in second is Brian Primavera of Hastings College who shot a 68.  James Walsh from the University of Sioux Falls is third with a one-over 73 with the Jackets’ Nicholas, a senior from Sheridan, Wyo., nipping at Walsh’s heels with a two-over 74.  Nicholas’s round matched his career-low shot at the Rocky Mountain Invite last season.

The Jackets’ Mike Watson (Whitefish) and newcomer to the team John Barney (Livingston) shot a first round 76 to sit in a four-way tie for tenth, while Jeff Allen (Dillon) is tied for 15th with a 78 and Michael Konrad (Rupert, Idaho) is tied for 21st with a first round 79.
