No. 9 Alaska Anchorage Down Yellowjackets, 90-46

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – No. 9 Alaska Anchorage used hot shooting in the second half to pull away from Montana State Billings Thursday evening.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fall to 1-24 on the year and 1-13 in the GNAC.  UAA improves to 21-4 and 12-1 in conference play.

Freshman John Brooks led the Yellowjackets with 19 points of 7 of 16 from the field and 3 of 8 from beyond the arc.  UAA’s Carl Arts had a game-high 23 points on 11 of 15 from the field, while Chris Bryant had 21 points and seven rebounds.  Luke Cooper had a career and GNAC record 17 assists in the game as well.

The Yellowjackets shot 38 percent from the field in the first half on 8 of 21.  MSUB was 6 of 16 from beyond the arc in the first half and a perfect 6 of 6 from the line.  UAA shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half on 15 of 29 from the field.  The Seawolves were 3 of 8 from beyond the arc and 4 of 5 from the line.

Despite the discrepancy in field goal shooting, UAA held a 37-28 lead at intermission.

The Seawolves got even hotter in the second half, shooting 67 percent from the field in the half of 22 of 33.  They were 5 of 9 from deep and 4 of 5 from the free throw line in the half.  MSUB’s percentage dropped in the second half to 32 percent of 7 of 22 from the field and was 4 of 11 from long range.

Freshman Kyle Palmer did not make the trip to Alaska as he has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team.  In addition, sophomore Tyler Hentzen also did not make the trip as he suffered an injury last weekend.
