NAMPA, Idaho – Kyle Pape’s 24 points lifted
Colorado School of Mines to a 114-70 win Friday over the Montana
State Billings men’s basketball team in the first of two neutral
games at the Shiloh Inn & Suites Classic hosted by Northwest
Nazarene. The Jackets remain winless at 0-6, while the
Orediggers improved to 4-1.
The Yellowjackets kept the Diggers’ lead in
check until a jumper by Levi Hamilton with 11:07 left in the
first half of play pushed CSM’s lead into the double-digits.
MSUB would trail the remainder of the game falling by 44.
The Jackets’
Aaron
Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif.) who has led the MSUB in
scoring all season was kept at bay by the Orediggers’ defense
allowing him just 11 points, nine of which came in the first
half. CSM was unable to stop the freshman duo of
John
Brooks (Perris, Calif.) and
Cameron Khoury (Alta Loma, Calif.) as each netted a
career-high 25 and 20 points respectively. Both Brooks and
Khoury combined for nine of the Jackets’ 11 three-pointers in
the game. Brooks also nabbed a career-high three steals in the
game.
As a team the Yellowjackets showed signs of
its usual hot three-point shooting hitting 11-of-23 for 48
percent. Struggling at the free throw line, MSUB shot just 41
percent connecting on nine of 22 attempts. The Jackets turned
the ball over 17 times and were out-rebounded by the Orediggers
45-28.
Pape drilled a game-high six three-pointers
en route to his 24 points. Pape was 8-of-18 from the floor.
Four other Diggers scored in double figures. Ben Mohr posted a
big double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Grant Agee
notched 22 points as he knocked down five three-pointers.
The Diggers were 44-of-79 from the floor
and 15-of-31 from the perimeter. CSM made the most of their
turns at the charity stripe hitting a perfect 11-of-11. The
Orediggers turned the ball over nine times but managed 11 steals
in the game.
The Yellowjackets wrap up their road trip
to Northwest Nazarene with a neutral game against Colorado
Christian University on Saturday, December 1. Game time is
scheduled for 3:30 p.m. PST.
The Jackets are gearing up to host cross
town rival Rocky Mountain College on Monday, December 17th in
the first of a four-game home stand. Tip off is set for 7:00
p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium. Visit the Yellowjackets’
