17 Yellowjackets Earn Academic Honors

BILLINGS, Mont. – Seventeen Montana State Billings soccer players were named to the 2007 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Soccer Academic all-star teams on Wednesday.  A total of 73 student-athletes – 45 women and 28 men – were named to the academic teams.

Heading up the women’s academic team is Northwest Nazarene goalkeeper Amanda Peters who has a perfect 4.00 GPA during her collegiate career.  Four other players – NNU’s Katie McNutt (3.99), Seattle’s Kate Edstrom (3.97), Seattle Pacific’s Claire Grubbs (3.95) and Melissa Carlson of Montana State Billings (3.90) – have GPAs of 3.90 or better.

Montana State Billings, Northwest Nazarene, Seattle Pacific and Seattle University each placed eight players on the women’s team, while Western Washington earned seven spots.

Justin Abel of Seattle Pacific has the top GPA (3.95) on the men’s academic team.  Tom Milroy and Justin Hoskins of Montana State Billings have composite GPAs of 3.94 and 3.93, respectively.   MSU Billings led the men’s selections with nine, while Seattle University and Seattle Pacific each placed eight on the team.

Twenty-one student-athletes were named to the soccer academic team for the third time, while 17 others were selected for the second time.

To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
