Jackets and Wolves Split Season Finale Doubleheader

     Game One
     Game Two

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Montana State Billings baseball team ended the regular season with a split at Western Oregon Saturday afternoon.  The Yellowjackets won the opener 4-3 and WOU won the nightcap 3-2.

MSUB (14-38, 5-25 GNAC) had a solid pitching performance from Steve Scott in the opener as he pitched a complete game allowing three 10 hits, three earned runs one walk and two strikeouts in the 4-3 victory.

Back-to-back singles by Bryce Thomas and Jeff Ridgeway in the ninth inning led to a run as Nick Harris grounded out breaking a 3-3 tie for the 4-3 victory.  WOU had a chance in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to score leaving two on base.

MSUB took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Levi Johnson singled in Matt Schoonover for a 1-0 lead.  WOU (29-17, 24-8) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the second inning on a single and a Dylan Bruck RBI double.

The Yellowjackets responded with two runs in the third on a run scoring double by Ridgeway and a RBI single by Jonathan Schlender for a 3-2 lead.  Western Oregon evened the score in the sixth, prior to the run in the ninth by the Jackets.

Western Oregon plated two runs in the third inning of the nightcap, but the Jackets came roaring back to tie the game in the seventh sending it to extra-innings with the Wolves scoring in the bottom of the eighth for a 3-2 victory.  A wild pitch and a Bruck single to center scored the winning run.

The Jackets tied the score as Joe Via homered in the sixth and Harris singled to center, scoring Patch Wirtzberger for a 2-2 score.

Jeremy Knowles (2-7) took the loss in his final start as a Yellowjacket, going seven innings allowing five hits, three earned runs one walk and four strikeouts.  Jared Neyens (4-1) picked up the victory in relief for WOU.
