McCormick Leads Jacket Runners at UM (9/30/06)

MISSOULA, MT – Competing in her first race of the season, Teri Lea McCormick led the Montana State-Billings cross-country teams at the University of Montana Invitational on Saturday.  McCormick, a freshman from Hardin, MT, placed 37th for the Lady Yellowjackets, completing the 6-kilometer course in 24:54.

The Lady Jackets placed sixth in the seven-team field, beating out University of Great Falls.  The other five teams in the race were Division I teams.  Washington State took top team honors with 36 points, outpacing University of Montana by 16 points.  Washington State’s Haley Paul was the top individual finisher in 21:32.

Rounding out the Yellowjacket scoring runners were Crystal Roseberry (Fr., Chinook, MT) in 46th place with a time of 26:07, Cierra Dornfeld (So., Woodbury, MN) in 47th place with a time of 26:09, Tiffany Piplica (Sr., Riverton, WY) in 48th place with a time of 26:22, and Erin Mueller (Jr., Billings, MT) in 51st place with a time of 27:10.

The Yellowjackets had 11 women competing in the race, with the six non-scoring runners placing in order from 53rd to 58th.  They included Kym Island (So., Columbia Falls, MT) in 28:31, Colleen Dalimata (Jr., Columbia Falls, MT) in 28:37, Kisa Kron (Jr., Livingston, MT) in 29:16, Kristy Burns (Sr., Livingston, MT) in 29:36, Bridget Voorhees (Sr., Great Falls, MT) in 30:14, and Erin Gannon (So, Yankton, SD) in 30:25.

The Yellowjacket men finished last in the nine-team men’s race.  Washington State easily won the team title with 18 points, and the Cougars’ Alex Grant took top individual honors with a time of 25:05 for the 8K course.  The Jackets’ top finisher was Matt Roseberry (So, Chinook, MT) in 51st place with a time of 28:41.  He was followed by Jarred Rensvold (Jr., Wolf Point, MT) in 53rd with a time of 28:48, Joe Kragt (Sr., Worden, MT) in 55th with a time of 30:42, Andy Zoeller (Jr., Billings, MT) in 59th with a time of 32:03, and Abram Hagstrom (Sr., Billings, MT) in 66th with a time of 35:53. 

The Yellowjackets next race is October 7 at Black Hills State.
