BILLINGS, MT – The Montana
State-Billings cross country team’s hosted the
Yellowjacket Fun Run and Collegiate Invitational
Saturday at Riverfront Park. The 5K Fun Run
consisted of men and women ranging in age from 12
and under to 60 years plus. The collegiate race,
hosted by the Yellowjackets, included teams from
Dickinson State, University of Great Falls, Black
Hills State, Flathead Valley College, and
Yellowstone Baptist College.
The Fun Run preceded the
college race and winning the men’s open division was
Josh Dean with a time of 16:34. Top honors in the
master’s division belonged to Jay Mack with a
20:43. The women’s open division winner was Lauren
Wright turning in a time of 20:00 even. Kathy
Aragon led the master’s division winning in a time
of 20:35.
Still riding the high of last
week’s Heartland Conference Championship, the Lady
Jackets won the team competition by virtue of a
tiebreaker over the visiting Dickinson State with 28
points. The University of Great Falls took the top
two spots in the individual race with Charelle
Martin winning in a time of 19:37. Martin was
followed by teammate Allison Johnson with 19:54. Teri Lea McCormick (Hardin, MT) was the top
finisher for the Jackets turning in a time of 19:56
in the 5K race to claim third. Erin Mueller (Billings, MT), Crystal Roseberry (Chinook, MT), and Tiffany Piplica (Riverton, WY) placed seventh
through ninth respectively.
The men of Dickinson State
dominated the men’s race taking first through fourth
in the individual competition. John Kungu won the
8K in a time of 26:23 followed by teammate Bismark
Cheruiyot, Moses Chepkwon, and Sergio Campos. Matt Roseberry (Chinook, MT) led the
Yellowjacket performance placing sixth with a time
of 27:40. Jarred Rensvold (Wolf Point, MT) was 13th with a time of 29:08. Dickinson’s effort also won
them the team competition turning in a total of 16
points. The Yellowjacket men were second with 47
points.
The Yellowjacket men and women
are geared up to compete in the NCAA Division II
South Central Regional meet held in Warrensburg,
Missouri November 4.
