Lady Jackets Sign Sprinter (6/26/07)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State University Billings cross-country track coach Dave Coppock announced Tuesday that Malori Woodford has signed a national letter of intent to run for the Yellowjackets.  The 5-foot-9 sprinter is a 2007 graduate of Winnett High School in Winnett, Mont.

“Malori is the first sprinter we've signed here, and she'll be a big help in getting us established in that area of the track program,” said Coppock.  “She's very strong from the 100 through 400 meters, and she will be able to help us in the individual events and relays at the conference level.  Her high school times exceed our conference provisional standards, so I'm hopeful we'll get her qualified for both the indoor and outdoor conference championships next year.  She's not a bad cross-country runner either and is working hard this summer to build her endurance. She should really add some depth to the women's team this fall.”

Woodford lettered four times in track and basketball and twice in cross-country at Winnett.  She was the track team’s high points winner all four years and was named team MVP as a senior.  This year she placed in five events at the District 7C meet, winning the 100, 400, and long jump.  She placed third in the 200 and triple jump.  At the Northern C Divisional, Woodford placed second in the 400 and third in the 100.

“The campus us gorgeous and I love the town of Billings,” said Woodford.  “The location of campus is far enough away from home so I can really feel that I am on my own, yet not too far away so I feel I can’t go home.”
