Bengals Blast Lady Jackets (4/20/07)
Box Score

POCATELLO, ID –Idaho State scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in beating Montana State-Billings 8-1 Friday afternoon in non-conference softball action.  The second game of the doubleheader was rained out in the second inning with the Yellowjackets leading 3-0.  Weather permitting, the same teams will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m.

The Bengals sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring three runs and stranding three runners.  They added another run in the second inning for a 4-0 lead.

MSU Billings was poised to make a rally in the top of the fourth when the Yellowjackets loaded the bases with no outs.  Jenna Haacke (Billings, MT) reached on an error to drive in Steph Gosselin (Victoria, BC).  But a foul out, a caught stealing, and a strikeout ended the threat.  Only one other batter reached base for the Yellowjackets the rest of the way.

Lindsay Boughton went the distance for the Bengals, scattering five Yellowjacket singles over seven innings.  She struck out six and walked one to improve to 6-16.  Heather Dixon was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.  She homered and doubled.  Christine Schollenberger was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the leadoff spot.  Whitney Nix drove in three RBIs.

Lindsey Trenary (Helena, MT) took the loss for the Yellowjackets.  She gave up 12 hits and eight earned runs in six innings.  The loss dropped her to 4-4 on the season.  Lorel Palmer (Ogden, UT), Terina Stacks (Washougal, WA), Leslie Davis (Federal Way, WA), Jessica Frank (Great Falls, MT), and Mandy Schaapveld (Puyallup, WA) each had a single.

Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the Yellowjackets close out the regular season with two games against University of Great Falls on Sunday at Cenex Stadium.  The first game starts at 3:00 p.m.  MSUB will be the No. 3 seed at the Heartland Conference Tournament which runs April 26-28 in San Antonio.
