Jacket Men Twelfth at WWU Invite

BELLINGHAM, WA – The Montana
State-Billings men’s golf team placed twelfth at the
35th
annual Viking Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament which
ended Tuesday at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
The tournament concluded the opening weekend for the
Yellowjackets, who also competed at an event hosted by
St. Martin’s University on Friday and Saturday.
The
Yellowjackets gained one place in the team standings in
the final round of the Western Washington Invitational
on Tuesday, pulling away from a two-round tie with
Northwest Nazarene to outpace the Crusaders 915-926.
Western Washington captured top team honors at the
14-team tournament, posting a total team score of 854.
The
Jackets were led by Zach Abels, who placed in a tie for
30th with seven-over 223 over three rounds. Abels
carded rounds of 74, 75, and 74. Mike Rider tied for
33rd with an 8-over 224 after rounds of 78, 71, and 75.
Rider’s second-round 71 was the Jackets’ low round of
the tournament. Brady Baguio of Cal State-Bakersfield
took top individual honors with a 13-under 203. The top
13 individual finishers were under par.
The
Yellowjackets next play at the St. Mary’s Invitational
in San Antonio, TX, on October 9 and 10.
