Stroup Earns Second POTW Honor (10/4/05)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings women’s soccer player Ally Stroup has been named the Heartland Conference offensive player of the week for the second time this season.  Stroup was also the conference’s offensive player of the week for the week of September 5-11.  The Yellowjackets, 7-2-1 overall and playing in their first year in the Heartland Conference, have had five player of the week selections.

Stroup, a junior midfielder from Ojai, Calif., scored two goals and had an assist to lead Montana State University-Billings to a 3-2 overtime victory at University of Mary on Sunday.  She assisted on the first goal of the game and scored a pair of goals in a span of nine and a half minutes to rally the Yellowjackets from a 2-1 deficit.

With MSU Billings trailing 2-1, Stroup dribbled through the defense and scored from 18 yards out in the 85th minute to tie the game and force overtime.  In the extra period she rebounded her own shot and scored the game winner 4:27 into OT.

On the season Stroup leads MSU Billings in goals (7), assists (4), and points (18).  She currently ranks second in the Heartland Conference for points, goals and assists.  Already the school career record holder with 19 assists, Stroup is now just nine goals and eight points shy of reaching those school career records respectively.
