Group Effort Ends with Men’s Soccer “W” (10/5/05)

BILLINGS, MT - One goal and 40
volunteers removing snow from the field is what it took for the
Montana State-Billings men’s soccer team to earn their fourth
win on the season downing Dallas Baptist University 1-0
Wednesday at College of Technology Field. The Jackets improved
to 4-9-0 on the season and dropped the Patriots to 5-5-0.
“I am very proud of the team
and even more proud to be a member of the Athletic department,”
said head coach Dan McNally. “To see the Athletic Director
shoveling snow at 10:30 a.m. is incredible, and to all of the
volunteers that gave their time to make the game possible today,
I thank you,” McNally added.
The Yellowjackets first goal
and eventual game winner came at 68:56 of the second half by
senior midfielder Marcus Riley (Kalispell, MT). Teammate Dustin
Kono (Sr., F, Aberdeen, SD) made a short cross to Riley
who’s first shot was blocked by a defender. Riley picked up the
deflection with his second shot making it pass the Patriots
keeper. With just 40 seconds remaining on the game clock,
Yellowjacket goalkeeper Jess
Feldtman (Sr., Lander, WY) made a driving save on a header
by Patriot Josh Conley making it Feldtman’s third save on the
day.
This game also represents the
first time since the 2003 season that the Yellowjackets have had
back to back wins. The Jackets had 19 shots to the Patriots 7
in the game with the Jackets having six shots on goal. Both
Riley and Kono had two shots on goal apiece with teammates Greg
McKeever (So., D, Kirkland, WA) and Victor Sargent (Jr., MF, Billings, MT) each having one.
“This is the best we have
played all season,” said McNally. “We created a lot of scoring
chances and our defense is looking solid. Again, to all that
helped out, I appreciate your efforts.”
The men are back in action
Saturday when they host Regis University at 1:00 p.m. followed
by a neutral game at 3:30 p.m. The Jackets will play again
Sunday against Colorado State-Pueblo at 12:00 p.m. with a
neutral game following at 2:30 p.m. |
