Krista (Fjelstad) Montague is entering her sixth
year of employment by MSUB Athletics. She was hired
in July of 2002 as the Athletics Department
Development & Marketing Director. In 2003 she was
appointed to the position of Senior Woman
Administrator, making her the highest-ranking female
administrator in the Athletics Department. In 2005,
Montague was promoted to the Assistant Athletic
Director for Corporate Sales and NCAA Compliance and
also continues as the department's Senior Woman
Administrator.
Montague, a native of Eastern Montana, graduated
from MSU Billings in 1999 with an undergraduate
degree in Business Administration, Marketing.
Montague was a four-year letter winner for the MSU
Billings women’s basketball team, and left the
program with the school record for career free throw
percentage. As a senior, Montague helped MSU
Billings to the West Regional Championship, where
the team upset the No 1. seeded host UC Davis and
made the program’s first and only Elite Eight
appearance in school history.
Montague is responsible for a vital piece to the
growing Athletics Department’s overall budget, the
corporate partnership program. Her responsibility
includes recruiting and retaining over 50 corporate
partners which total over $250,000 in cash and
trade. Montague is a member of the National
Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA),
whose mission is “to foster the highest possible
professional and ethical standards, while providing
administrators in athletics marketing,
communications and revenue generation a broad range
of advancement opportunities.”
Montague also oversees the daily NCAA compliance
functions for MSU Billings Athletics. Compliance is
a vitally important facet of being an NCAA member
institution, and Montague works diligently to ensure
MSU Billings staff
remain current on all NCAA compliance issues.
Included in her duties are tracking student-athlete
eligibility, training staff on NCAA compliance
issues, representing MSU Billings at NCAA compliance
seminars, and working with NCAA staff on rules
interpretations.
Before joining the MSU Billings Athletics staff
full time, Montague was the Athletics Department’s
part time corporate partnership director. Krista and
her husband Brent were married in December of 2000
and have three children, Dylan, Shayla, and Allie.
