BILLINGS, MT –
Black Hills State runners captured the top spots in
the men’s and women’s races Saturday en route to
team titles at the MSU Billings Yellowjacket
Invitational. The Montana State-Billings women
captured individual places 2, 3 and 6 to finish just
seven points behind BHSU.
Black Hills
took three of the top four places in the men’s race
to outpace Dickinson State 21-37. Zach Kintzley was
the overall winner, finishing the 8K race in 25:54.
That time would have won last week’s PacWest
Conference Championships by nine seconds. Kintzley
broke away after the two-mile mark and was never
challenged, outrunning teammate James Hansen who
finished second in 26:28.
Scott Brown (Sr., Billings, MT) was the top finisher for
MSU Billings. He ran a season-best 28:05 to place
twelfth. Sam Hartpence (So., Custer, SD) ran a
steady 28:11, also a season-best, to place
fourteenth. Rounding out the Jackets’ top five were Joe Kragt (So., Worden, MT) in 20th place
in 29:39, Ryan Archibald (Sr., Missoula, MT) in 22nd in 29:55, and Jared Rensvold (Fr., Wolf Point, MT)
in 27th in 30:46.
Black Hills
had three of the top five placers in the women’s
race to edge the Lady Jackets. Crystal Hostetter
pulled away from MSUB’s Heidi Robertson (Sr., Great
Falls, MT) for an eight-second win in 18:40.
Robertson held of teammate Sarah Lord (Jr.,
Billings, MT) for second place. Robertson finished
in 18:48, and Lord crossed the line in 18:49—both
season-bests. The duo also finished 2-3 at last
week’s PacWest Championships.
The Jackets’ Chelsea Lynnes (Sr., Miles City, MT) placed sixth in
19:30. Black Hills used eighth and ninth place
finishes from Cassie Knutson and Kendra Karst
respectively to edge MSU Billings in the team
score. The Yellowjackets’ fourth and fifth runners
were Diana Davis (Jr., Kalispell, MT) in eleventh
and Tiffany Piplica in twelfth. Davis finished in
20:14 followed by Piplica in 20:24.
Also finishing
for MSU Billings were Mandy Brown (Sr., Wolf Point,
MT) in seventeenth place in 21:25, Tracie Overberg (Jr., Dodson, MT) in eighteenth in 21:43, Kendra Bebee (Sr., Dillon, MT) in 21st in 22:28, Kisa Kron (Fr., Livingston, MT) in 22nd in 22:29, and Kristy Burns (So., Livingston, MT) in 24th in
22:57.
The
Yellowjackets will wrap up the season next Saturday
in Bellingham, WA at the NCAA West Regional.
