Milne Named Academic All-America Third Team (Mar. 3, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings women’s basketball player Robyn Milne was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team on Thursday by College Sports Information Directors of America.  Milne, a senior from Richey, Mont., is an English Education major with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average.

Milne was named to the CoSIDA District VII first team and advanced to the national balloting which concluded this week.  Five student-athletes were named to the first team of each of the eight CoSIDA districts.  Those 40 first team selections then moved on to the national balloting.  Milne was the only member from District VII to be named to any of the three Academic All-America teams.  There were five first team, five second team, and five third team selections.

Milne has two regular season games remaining in her career as the Yellowjackets play at Western New Mexico Thursday and Saturday.  If they win both games, the Jackets will likely earn an invitation to the NCAA Tournament.  They were ranked seventh in the final regular season regional poll on Wednesday, and the top eight teams in the region earn tournament berths.  The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Sunday at 8:00 p.m. MST.

Milne is just six blocked shots short of the school record of 272.  She currently ranks sixteenth in NCAA Division II history for career blocked shots and is fourth nationally this season for blocked shots per game.  By averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds a game this season, Milne became just the second player in school history to score over 1,000 career points and grab over 900 career rebounds.  She could also break the school record for career rebounds this week, needing just 12 to tie the record.
