Yellowjackets Drop Tennis Matches at PWC Tourney

LAIE, HI – In the second day of
PacWest Conference championship play, both Montana
State-Billings tennis teams went down in defeat. The Lady
Jackets were blasted by top-ranked BYU-Hawaii, 9-0. The
Yellowjacket men lost is straight sets, 6-0, to
Hawaii-Hilo.
For BYU-Hawaii’s women, the win over
the Yellowjackets gave them their 125th
consecutive victory, tying the NCAA record for the longest
current winning streak in any NCAA sport. The Jackets
managed to win only three games in their doubles matches
and were downed in straight sets in singles play. Marta
Borges played the closes match for the Jackets, losing
6-0, 7-5 to Crystal Schwenke.
The championship match will be played
Saturday at 9 a.m. in Laie. BYU-Hawaii will meet
Hawaii-Hilo. The Yellowjackets will face Western New
Mexico at 3 p.m.
The Yellowjacket men dropped their
six singles matches in straight sets to the Vulcans. In
the closest matches, MSUB’s Sergio Diaz lost to Dan
Pollock, 6-1, 6-4, and Kellen Malone fell to Mitchel
Gelina, 6-2, 6-2. The Vulcans will face the host
Seasiders for the championship at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The
Yellowjackets will play for third and fourth against
Western New Mexico at noon.
