MSUB Softball Adds JC Transfer (June 13, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings softball coach Jeff Aumend announced Monday that Lorel Palmer of Ogden, Utah, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Yellowjackets next season.  Palmer was a 2003 graduate of Bonneville High School.

A 5-foot-3 outfielder, Palmer was among the national leaders in hitting and stolen bases as a sophomore at Garden City Community College (KS).  She hit .457, ranking sixteenth nationally in NJCAA Division I.  She was fifteenth in the nation with a .875 stolen base percentage, swiping 35 of 40 attempts.  Palmer set school records as a sophomore for batting average, total hits, and stolen bases.  As a freshman, Palmer hit .396 for the Broncbusters.  In her two seasons at Garden City, she batted .429 with 60 stolen bases.

Palmer earned first team All-KJCAA and NJCAA honors this past season.  She was also named to the NJCAA All-America Third Team.

At Bonneville HS, Palmer lettered three times in softball, twice in track, twice in volleyball, and once in basketball.  As a senior in 2003 she helped the Lakers to the state softball title, earning all-area and all-state recognition along the way.
