Yellowjacket Men Down Tigers, 4-3

Colorado Springs, CO – After
disappointing match play the previous day, the
Yellowjacket men’s tennis team pulled out a sweet
victory over Colorado College in Colorado Springs
Thursday, March 10, winning 4-3.
Playing in the number one doubles
position, Yellowjacket
Sergio Diaz (Jr., Lima, Peru) and doubles partner
Paco Sanchez (Sr., Elche, Spain) won a dramatic
tie-break victory over the Tigers.
Kellen Malone (Sr., Havre, MT) and
Ryan
Smith (Jr., Calgary, Alberta) contributed two points
each in singles and doubles play to give the Jackets the
“W.”
“The men put things together on
this day for a good college match, as half the matches
featured tie-breaks for the sets,” said head coach Jerry
Peach. “The men are still struggling with capitalizing
on their opportunities, but we can’t argue with a 4-3
win, as those are the ones that taste the best.”
After two wins coming earlier in
the week, the Lady Jackets were unable to grab their
third win falling 2-5 to Colorado College. Although the
Jackets won the doubles point, they did not earn enough
wins in singles play to claim the match.
“The girls played in the cold wind
and this proved to be a difficult match for them,” said
Peach. “Tia
Smith (So., Idaho Falls, ID) and
Marta Borges (Fr., Lisbon, Portugal) remained
undefeated in the number three position to help win the
doubles point for the Jackets.”
The final match
up for both the men and women is scheduled for Friday,
March 11th against Metropolitan in Denver, Colorado.
Play is set to begin at 10 a.m.
