Yellowjackets Jump to First for 3-Point Shooting (Feb. 22, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings men’s basketball team moved from third to first for 3-point shooting in this week’s NCAA national statistical rankings.  The Yellowjackets, who average 11.9 made 3-pointers per game, have three games remaining.  They host MSU-Northern on Thursday and Johnson & Wales on Saturday.  They finish the season at Western New Mexico on March 3.

MSU Billings ranks second for scoring average at 92.6 points per game.  Pfeiffer continues to lead the nation at 95.9 ppg.  The Yellowjackets are also 22nd for team free throw percentage, hitting 74.9 percent of their free throw attempts.

Individually, Cameron Munoz, a junior guard from Chino, CA, is fourth in the nation for 3-pointers made.  He is averaging 4.2 per game.  Munoz also continues to climb the scoring average rankings.  He was 33rd last week and has moved to 28th this week at 19.8 ppg.  He is also ranked 34th for free throw percentage at 84.6 percent.

Buddy Windy Boy, a junior from Lodge Grass, MT, is seventh for 3-pointers made at 3.8 per game.  He is also 34th for 3-point percentage at 42.1.

Justin Hassell, a senior from Brooklyn, NY, made his debut in the national stats rankings this week.  He climbed to 48th for scoring at 18.8 ppg, and 50th for rebounding at 5.5 rpg.

Sophomore Jonathan Wiley (Westlake Village, CA) is ranked 50th for free throw percentage at 83.8 percent.  Freshman Carlin Hughes (Perth, Australia) also made his first appearance in the national rankings at 18th for assists average (5.5).  Since Hughes missed the first five games of the season, he is just now eligible to be ranked.  All players in the NCAA statistical rankings must play in at least 75 percent of their team’s games.
