Lady Yellowjackets Win in Anchorage Behind Petersen, Milne (Dec. 19, 2003)
Box Score

ANCHORAGE, AK – Tanya Petersen and Robyn Milne out dueled Alaska-Anchorage’s Amber Nasby and Kamie Jo Massey in a 62-54 win Friday night at the Glacier Classic.  The Lady Jackets snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 4-5 overall and 3-3 within the West Region.  They will face Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday night in Anchorage with tip off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. MST.

Petersen scored a game-high and career-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field to lead the Yellowjackets to their first win since December 1.  Milne nailed down her sixth double-double of the year with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the two interior players combined for 35 of the Jackets’ 62 points.  Nasby and Massey combined for 31 of the Seawolves’ 54 points, netting 16 and 15 respectively.

The Yellowjackets trailed by as many as seven in the first half when Nasby’s jumper at 7:09 made the score 23-16 in favor of the Seawolves.  Back-to-back baskets from Petersen cut the lead to 23-20 with 5:24 left in the half.  After a long dry spell by both teams, they traded baskets over the final 2:41 of the half and Anchorage took a 29-27 lead into the locker room.

After six ties through the first eight minutes of the second half, UAA built a six-point lead with 9:12 to play.  Two 3-pointers from Jenny Auer tied the game for the seventh time in the half and tenth time in the game, 52-52, with 7:55 remaining.  MSU Billings never trailed after that point, outscoring the Seawolves 10-2 over the final 7:14.  Four different Yellowjackets scored during that stretch.

Milne gave MSUB a two-point lead at the 7:14 mark with a layup.  After Nasby tied the game for the eleventh and final time, Jenny Langford put the Yellowjackets ahead to stay with a pair of free throws with 5:18 remaining.  Jennifer Skrifvars and Auer also scored during the stretch run to seal the victory for the Jackets.

Auer finished the game with eight points on 2-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.  MSU Billings made 4-of-14 3-pointers in the game while UAA was 6-of-16.  Langford added seven points and tied her career-high with seven assists.  As a team, the Yellowjackets shot 44-percent from the field, their best shooting night since a November 21 win against Central Washington.
