Petersen Leads Lady Jackets over Humboldt State (Dec. 30, 2003)
Box Score

LA JOLLA, CA – Tanya Petersen’s double-double lifted MSU Billings to an 80-64 West Region win over Humboldt State Tuesday night at the UC-San Diego Invitational.  The sophomore forward scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.

Just one night after posting a field goal percentage in the low 30s, the Lady Yellowjackets were on the mark from the opening tip.  MSUB shot 56-percent from the field in the first 20 minutes to build a 47-33 halftime lead and finished the game with a 55.6-percent field goal percentage.

Robyn Milne was almost perfect from the field, connecting on 6-of-7.  She hit all four of her free throw attempts to finish with 16 points.  Milne also handed out four assists and blocked two shots.

Sophia Forney added 13 points and was 4-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.  MSUB’s big three of Petersen, Milne and Forney accounted for 48 of the Jackets’ 80 points and were a combined 18-of-28 from the field.

The Lumberjacks’ top two scorers entering the game, Nicole Lynch and Peni Vaefaga, each netted 17 points, but were the only two in double figures for Humboldt.  The Yellowjackets held the Lumberjacks to 39-percent shooting from the field and out rebounded them by ten on the defensive glass.

Jenny Auer chipped in nine points for the Yellowjackets, making two of the team’s six 3-pointers.  Lisa Jellum added seven points on 3-of-4 shooting, while Jenny Langford and Jennifer Skrifvars each finished with six points.  Skrifvars also had a career-high eight rebounds.

The Yellowjackets and Lumberjacks will meet again on January 2 on Humboldt’s home court in Arcata, CA.  MSU Billings improved to 6-6 with Tuesday’s win; Humboldt State dropped to 3-7.
