Yellowjackets Blown Out in Game One at Chaminade (Feb. 17, 2004)

HONOLULU, HI – Chaminade University scored 62 first half points and shot a blistering 68.3 percent from the field to run past Montana State-Billings, 107-75, in PacWest Conference play on Tuesday.  The game was the first of two between the teams this week.  They will meet again on Thursday in Honolulu before the Jackets close the week on Saturday at Hawaii-Hilo.

The Yellowjackets dropped to 15-8 overall and 6-6 in the Pacific West Conference and were mathematically eliminated from the PacWest title race.  The Silverswords improved to 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the PacWest.  

The Yellowjackets were playing for the third straight game without sophomore guard Cameron Munoz, the nation’s leading 3-point shooter.  Munoz, who averages 20 points and an NCAA-best 4.9 3-pointers per game, did not make the trip to Hawaii because of an injury suffered at the end of last Tuesday’s win at home against BYU-Hawaii.

MSU Billings made a season-low five 3-pointers in the game, with Buddy Windy Boy knocking down four in the first half.  Windy Boy finished the game with 19 points, 16 of which came in the opening half.  The Yellowjackets were 5 of 21 from behind the arc (24 percent) and shot just 39 percent from the field.

Jerett Skrifvars scored 30 points for the second time in the last four games and recorded his eighth double-double of the season to lead the Yellowjacket offense.  He now ranks fifth in the conference for scoring (18.2 ppg) and first for rebounding (8.1 rpg).  Skrifvars and Windy Boy were the only Yellowjackets scoring in double figures.  Alex Galloway added nine points, and Bill Day chipped in eight to go with nine rebounds.

The Silverswords had three players scored at least 20 points, led by 22 each from Bryon Sykes and Roy Stigall.  Nick Frey added 20 points and eight rebounds.
