Yellowjackets Roll Over Green Mountain in Non-Conference Tune Up (Jan. 16, 2004)
Box Score

BILLINGS, MT – Green Mountain College was able to hang around for about the first four minutes Friday night, but MSU Billings had too much fire power as it ran away for a 124-70 non-conference win.  The Yellowjackets improved to 8-4 overall, dropping the Eagles to 4-10.  The same teams meet again Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium.  The Yellowjackets will return to PacWest Conference play January 20 when they host Hawaii-Hilo.

The Yellowjackets missed four of their first six field goal attempts of the game, helping Green Mountain stay close for the first four minutes.  Back-to-back 3-pointers from Dave Carse broke open a 7-4 game, giving the Jackets a 13-4 lead at 15:02.  Cameron Munoz followed with a four-point play on the next possession, hitting a 3-pointer from the left wing and drawing a foul.  His free throw at 14:13 put the Yellowjackets ahead 17-4, and they didn’t allow the Eagles to get closer than 11 for the rest of the night.

Five Yellowjackets scored double figures, led by Trae Fortier’s 28.  Fortier leads the PacWest in scoring at 22.3 points per game.  He also recorded his third double-double in the last four games, pulling down 13 rebounds.  Fortier improved his season field goal percentage to 53.4 percent by connecting on 12-of-15 from the field.

Munoz and Carse each made five 3-pointers, finishing with 22 and 20 points respectively.  Munoz has made 51 three-pointers already this season for a PacWest leading 4.25 threes per game.  He also notched a career-high eight assists.  Carse handed out a career-best 11 assists and is averaging 5.1 assists per game.

Alex Galloway only missed one field goal in the game, making 6-of-7 overall and 5-of-6 from 3-point range for a career-high 18 points.  Jerett Skrifvars added 14 points and four assists.  Freshman Jonathan Wiley set career-highs for rebounds (3) and blocked shots (4) while playing 17 minutes.  Bill Day finished with seven points and seven boards.

Green Mountain was led by John Saporita’s 24 points.  Nick Buck added 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.  The Eagles outscored the Yellowjackets 19-8 from the free throw line, but turned the ball over 23 times and allowed the Jackets to make 25 more field goals and 15 more 3-pointers.  The Yellowjackets’ 18 three-pointers were the most they’ve made in a game this season.  They have had at least ten 3-pointers in ten of their twelve games.
