Skrifvars Leads Three Yellowjackets Earning Academic Honors (Feb. 19, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – Jerett Skrifvars, a senior men’s basketball player at Montana State University-Billings, was named to the District VII Academic All-America First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.  Also earning District VII honors were senior men’s basketball player Dave Carse and junior women’s basketball player Robyn Milne, who were each named to the second team.

Jerett Skrifvars

Skrifvars will now be placed on the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America voting.  The five first team selections from each of the eight regions move on to the national balloting.

A senior from Brea, California, Skrifvars graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2003 with a BSBA in Information Systems and has held a 4.00 GPA through four and a half years at MSU Billings.  He returned for a fifth year after receiving a medical redshirt last season.  Skrifvars has earned academic honors all nine semesters at MSU Billings and has been a two-time PacWest Academic All-Conference selection.

Skrifvars currently ranks in the top five in the PacWest for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and assists.  He is fifth for scoring (18.2 ppg), first for rebounding (8.1 rpg), second for field goal percentage (57.3) and fourth for assists (4.95).  He also ranks seventh for steals (1.64 spg) and twelfth for free throw percentage (73.6) and lead leads the conference with eight double-doubles.

Skrifvars has climbed the school record list throughout his senior season and entered the week thirteenth in school

Dave Carse

 history for career scoring with 1,136 points.  He scored 30 points Tuesday night at Chaminade and is just 49 points from reaching the Yellowjackets’ top ten scoring list.  He also ranks tenth in school history for rebounds (532), sixth for steals (108), and third for free throws made (437).

Carse, a senior guard, has a 3.85 GPA in Liberal Studies and will graduate in May.  He has earned Academic Honors in six semesters with a 4.00 GPA four times.  A four year starter, Carse leads the PacWest in assists per game (5.62) and is third for 3-pointers made (3.38).  He ranks fifth in school history for assists (412) and seventh for 3-pointers made (177).

Robyn Milne

Milne, a junior center, has a 3.91 GPA in English Education.  She has earned Academic Honors in all five semesters at MSU Billings, achieving a 4.00 GPA three times.  In 24 games this season, she has thirteen double-doubles and averages 13.9 points and 11.7 rebounds a game.  Milne ranks fifth in the nation for rebounding and fourteenth for blocked shots (2.7).  She is second in school history for career blocked shots (165) and ninth for rebounds (635).  One more blocked shot will tie her for the second best single season total in school history.
