Yellowjackets Prevail against Cross-Town Rival Rocky

BILLINGS, MT – The MSU Billings
women’s basketball team took one more step closer to
the NCAA Tournament Thursday night by defeating
cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College 72-62.
Robyn Milne matched her career-high by
scoring 16 points for the second game in a row. She
also added nine rebounds.
The win was an important one
for the Lady Yellowjackets, who improved to 15-4, as
they try to keep pace in the NCAA West Region poll.
They are currently sitting at No. 4, with the top
eight teams qualifying for the tournament. The loss
dropped Rocky to 11-10 overall.
MSUB, which is ranked 20th
in NCAA Division II for field goal percentage
defense by holding its opponents to 35.5 percent
from the field, improved that standing Thursday by
holding the Lady Bears to just 31 percent from the
floor. Rocky connected on only 2-of-22 attempts
from three-point range.
Senior center
Jessie Henigman moved to within two
blocked shots of tying the school single-season
record of 66. She swatted three in the win over the
Bears to give her 64 for the season. Just five more
blocked shots this season will move her to No. 20
all-time on the NCAA career blocked shot list.
Senior forward
Natalie Visger added 12 points and six
rebounds in the winning effort. She connected on
all six of her free throw attempts to push her
season free throw percentage to 84.5 percent.
In a game that traditionally
turns into a defensive struggle, the Lady Jackets
had eight players with at least six points in the
game. Freshman guard
Jenny Langford scored nine, followed by
Jessica Bachmann’s eight, seven each from
Joan Langford, Henigman, and
Tanya Petersen, and six from
Amy Bantz.
The Yellowjackets embark on
their longest road trip of the year next week when
they play three games in Puerto Rico on February 14,
15 and 16. They return home for their final home
stand of the season when they host Western New
Mexico on February 22 and 23. The game on Sunday
the 23rd will tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
