No. 4 BYU-Hawaii Sweeps Past MSU Billings for Second Night (October 19, 2002)

BILLINGS, MT – The fourth-ranked BYU-Hawaii Seasiders used a balanced attack Saturday night to cruise past the MSU Billings Yellowjackets 3-0 in PacWest volleyball action.  The Seasiders placed four players in double-figure kills en route to their sixteenth victory of the year.

Chun Yi Lin (16), Ashley Moeai (15), Yu Chuan Weng (15) and Dan Xu (12) each knocked down double-figure kills as the Pacific Region’s No. 1 team swept to a 30-20, 30-25, 30-27 victory.  The Seasiders didn’t trail in either of the first two games and hit an impressive .336 for the match.  Crystal Casebolt guided the BYUH offense with 45 assists.

MSU Billings was led by freshman outsider hitter Ashley Jones, who posted a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs. Outside hitter Kari Gerretsen also added 13 kills while hitting .265.  Libero Mandi Paulson led MSUB with 14 digs.  The Yellowjackets hit .206 in the match, but the BYU-Hawaii defense recorded 61 digs in the three games.

BYU-Hawaii improved to 16-1 overall and remains atop the PacWest with a 5-1 record.  MSU Billings fell to 6-12 overall with a 2-4 PacWest record.

MSUB will host Chaminade on Monday and Tuesday, with both matches starting at 7:00 p.m.  BYU-Hawaii will travel to Western New Mexico for matches on Monday and Tuesday.
