Yellowjacket Volleyball Team Gets First Win of
the Season (August 31, 2002)
MANKATO, MN – The Montana State
University-Billings volleyball team picked up its
first win of the 2002 season on Saturday, defeating
Bemidji State 3-1. The Yellowjackets were competing
in a Labor Day tournament at Minnesota State
University-Mankato.
In Saturday’s first game, MSUB
came back after losing game one to defeat Bemidji
25-30, 30-27, 30-17, 30-21.
In the final game of the
tournament Saturday night, MSU Billings fell 3-2 in
a five game marathon against St. Cloud State. The
Yellowjackets won game one, then lost the next two
before evening the match by winning game four. The
fifth and deciding game, which by NCAA rules is
played with rally scoring to 15, finally ended with
the Jackets on the short end of a 22-20 thriller.
MSU Billings finished the first
weekend of play at 1-3. The Yellowjackets will have
their home opener next Thursday against MSU-Northern
at Alterowitz Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7:00
p.m.
