Writing Lab | ||
| The Writing Lab offers support
for students who want to improve their writing skills. Students
currently enrolled at MSU-B may work either independently or with the
assistance of tutors in the Learning Lab. The Writing Lab is
staffed by tutors who will assist students in the process of writing
papers for any class offered at MSU-B. While the tutors will not
proofread assignments word by word, they will help students to develop
their own ideas, to improve the structure of their papers, and to
correct groups of related errors resulting from misunderstandings of
grammar and usage rules. They will assist students in formatting their
papers according to APA, MLA, Chicago Style or Turabian guidelines. The
Writing Lab also provides handouts on APA and MLA guidelines and sample
papers that apply those guidelines to actual essays. Other
handouts provide information about grammar and usage concerns, such as
comma usage and subject/verb agreement. Reference books are also
available, but may not be checked out of the Learning Lab. Tutors
are available Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to
noon. Although appointments are not necessary, students wanting to
work with a particular tutor may want to make arrangements in advance. (top) |
