The Academic Support Center is staffed by a team of dedicated professionals who support student success at MSU-Billings.

The Academic Support and Learning Specialists teach courses in developmental math, writing, and reading and serve as tutors in the Learning Lab.

The team of tutors includes:

  1. contract tutors who have at least a bachelor's degree in math, English, or a related field.
  2. student tutors who are pursuing a degree in English or math at MSU Billings. 
  3. student tutors enrolled in English 390 who earn credit for their service in the Learning Lab.

All applicants must follow a standard application procedure by supplying:
1. A letter of interest citing any past tutoring/teaching experiences and related coursework completed in high school and/or college
2. A transcript for each college attended
3. A completed tutor application and tutor contract
4. A current class schedule indicating tutoring availability
  • After meeting with Leanne, each math and writing applicant must complete a diagnostic test to familiarize the applicant with general concepts addressed by tutors in the lab and indicate areas the applicant may need to review.
  • Each applicant must also agree to attend CRLA Tutor Training.  Each new hire will be given a Tutor Training Handbook and a training meeting schedule.
