CRLA Tutor Training
The MSUBillings Academic Support Center
requires all tutors to participate in tutor training
based on CRLA standards. Following the College
Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutoring
standards is twofold. First, it allows tutors to
receive recognition and positive reinforcement for their
efforts from an international organization.
Further, the certification process helps set the
standard for the skills and training a successful tutor
needs to make a difference when working with students in
the Academic Support Center.
CRLA certification has been endorsed by
the National Association for Developmental Education,
Commission XVI of the American College Personnel
Association, the American Council of Developmental
Education Associations, Association for the Tutoring
Professional, and the National Tutoring Association.
CRLA certifies programs, not individual tutors. In
other words, CRLA certifies that a particular
tutor-training program is qualified to issue CRLA
certificates to individual tutors at a certain level or
levels. The MSUBillings Academic Support Center
has received certification to issue Level I (Regular)
and Level II (Advanced) certificates.
