Class Notes Winter 2011

Severt Rist '52 and his wife, Vonnie, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.  Severt is retired after a long career in education and as the owner of Americana Bookcraft which he and Vonnie operated for 25 years.  They have three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


Earl Hanson '63 and his spouse, Peggy Roybal Hanson, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at Hilands Golf Club in Billings and Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz.  Earl is a retired attorney and Peggy a homemaker.  They have three children and six grandchildren.


Joe Pirami '74 and his wife, Nancy, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Montana's Rib & Chop House in Billings.  Joe is city manager at Diamond Parking and Nancy is an accounts specialist for the city.  They have two sons and three grandchildren.


Clarabell Jones Gibson '75 and her spouse, Jerry, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a party at their daughter's home.  Clara and Jerry are both retired, she from the Yellowstone County Extension Service and he from King Transfer.  They have five children, nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.


Holly Kadesh '76 has opened a clinical professional counseling practice in Billings.  She is a registered art therapist with over 17 years of clinical experience and provides treatment for individuals suffering from abuse and trauma or other challenges affecting their mental health.


John Felten '77 creates custom wood furniture from pine, maple, mahogany, cherry and other exotic hardwoods.  His work will be on display at Purple Sage Gallery in Billings beginning February 4th.  John recently retired from Border States Electric.


Rick Coyle '79 is director of national sales for Northern Broadcasting System Inc., a radio and television network headquartered in Billings.  He has been named Salesperson of the Year and also recognized for Highest Sales Increase, Highest Retention Rate, Highest Relationship, Growth, and the company's Service Excellence Award.

Twyla Best '81 of Billings has joined Granite Realty and specializes in residential real estate.

Margaret Aukshun '83 has earned her National Board Certification in mathematics.  National Board Certification is a rigorous process and gives teachers a chance to demonstrate advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices.  Margaret teaches math at Billings West High School.

Sandy Wong '83 has been named the top producer of home loan volume in 2010 in the Billings area for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.  Sandy has 25 years experience in originating conventional, FHA and VA loans.


Lisa Perry '86 was named Montana Ambassador of the Year for outstanding service to the organization.  She is community affairs manager with PPL Montana.


Angie Wong '89 is a certified international coach and founder of Wong Global Leadership LLC.  Recently retired as president of the credit card division at First Interstate Bank, she combines her expertise gained from business, coaching and leadership to help others develop their leadership strengths.


Callie Kenyon '91 is a realtor with Re/Max of Billings.  She specializes in farm and ranch and rural residential properties.  She has nine years of experience and has earned her GRI designation and Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource certification.


Lorne Armer '96 was recognized as one of Billings 40 Under Forty.  He is vice president of marketing for Kampgrounds of America and has been with the company for 10 years.

Erika Willis '97 is the executive director of STEP Inc. in Billings.  STEP provides support services so families can provide at-home care for children with developmental disabilities.  Erika has worked for a variety of nonprofits over the years, including Youth Dynamics, Friendship House, Tumbleweed and for School District 2 in its early childhood intervention program. Her most recent position, from 2008 to 2010, was as development director for the Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming.

Nicole Benzel '98 was recognized as one of Billings' 40 Under Forty.  She is a licensed clinical professional counselor.


Bryce Glen '98 was recently recognized as one of Billings' 40 Under Forty.  He is the owner of Rocky Mountain Compost, Inc.


Dawn McSweyn '98 has joined the Billings office of Realty Executives.  She specializes in residential real estate and land sales.  She was selected as a Best of Billings Realtor in 2010.

Lisa Jensen '99 has been promoted to senior financial consultant at D.A. Davidson & Co. in Billings.  She has earned the Certified Wealth Strategist designation and the Certified Financial Planner certification.


Kim Kaiser '00 was recently recognized as one of Billings' 40 Under Forty.  She is the executive director of Riverstone Health Foundation.


Heidi Knudson '00 was recently recognized as one of Billings 40 Under Forty.  She is a business development officer with Altana Federal Credit Union.

Nancy Cook Kimsey '01 is teaching in an Israeli National School and also consulting for special education issues.  She is delighted with the opportunity to use the skills she learned at MSU Billings and would like to thank everyone who supported her along the way.


Jeff McCullough '01, a deputy fire marshal in Billings, recently passed the Fire Inspector II examination.


Justin Moser '01 was recently promoted to regional sales manager at Employee Benefit Management Services in Billings.

Kate Cordes '02 has earned her National Board Certification in English language arts.  National Board Certification is a rigorous process and gives teachers a chance to demonstrate advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices.  Kate teaches with School District 2 in Billings.

Pam Woodard '02 of Billings has joined Prudential Floberg Realtors.  She has been a realtor since 2006 and specializes in residential and multifamily homes.


Kaycee Carroll '03 was recently recognized as one of Billings' 40 Under Forty.  She is assistant vice president for real estate lending at Western Security Bank.


Jamee Free '03 has joined Yellowstone counseling Center.  She has been at Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch since 2006, becoming a primary therapist in 2008.  She is trained in dialectical behavior therapy.


Traci Von Schriltz '03 has joined A Plus Health Care in Billings as the program manager.  She has 10 years experience in health care administration and specializes in long-term care.

Bethany Hein '04 an agent for New York Life Insurance in Billings was recently honored with the Mary Cassidy Award for leading the agency in paid life cases.  Bethany also received the Rookie of the Year Award for achieving case rate milestones in her first year of employment.

Jason Kelly '04 recently joined Farm Bureau Financial Services in Billings as a career agent.  He specializes in life, home, auto, farm and ranch insurance.  He was previously a retail manager for 14 years.

Angela Matta '04 has joined Yellowstone counseling Center.  She specializes in the treatment of families and adolescents healing from addictions, trauma, grief and abuse.


Rachel Christoferson '05 is president of the American Society of Women Accountants Billings Chapter 100 and recently published an article on not-for-profit tax considerations in the December newsletter.  She specializes in tax preparation and business consulting for individuals, small businesses and not-for-profits.


Krista Marshall '05 has joined the staff of Zee Creative in Billings as a creative writer.  She specializes in creative writing for on-line services and her work has been commissioned for websites, Facebook, stories for children's books, and stage and radio ads.

Karrie Erickson Owen '05 has been named director of development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Yellowstone County.  She was previously with the American Cancer Society.


Eric Staley '05 an employee with Yellowstone County Implement received advanced technician status after training in the John Deere University program.


Holly Anderson '06 has joined the technical sales staff at Wood's Powr-Grip in Laurel.  She has a background in marketing, advertising and sales.


Lindsay Johnson '08 was recently recognized as one of Billings' 40 Under Forty.  She owns Transformation Spa & Wellness.


Haylie Shipp '08 was recently honored at the Northern Broadcasting System, Inc.'s annual appreciation dinner for the Greatest Increase of New Accounts.  She is an ag broadcaster in Billings.


Meghan Hatzenbuehler '09 has earned the Certified Wellness Coach designation.  She is employed by Employee Benefit Management Services in Billings.


Cassandra Oliphant '09 has joined Wells Fargo as a home mortgage consultant.  She also specializes in loans for remodeling and investment properties.

Matt Schieno '09, a deputy fire marshal in Billings, recently passed the Fire Inspector II examination.


Deby Murch '10 has been promoted to human resources director at Valley Federal Credit Union in Billings.  Deby has been with the credit union for the past four years and has a degree in business management.


Kathryn Norby '10 is a physician recruiter for Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.  She graduated this past fall with a master in health administration.


Betsy Rutt Rivers '10 was recently recognized as one of Billings 40 Under Forty.  She is the director of advertising for Aqua Systems of Montana.  In addition she also plays violin with the Billings Symphony, directs the Billings Youth Orchestra and teaches violin to 21 students.
