Criteria

The Ronald P. Sexton Award for Professional Commitment was created to honor alumni who dedicate their professional lives as employees of Montana State University Billings.

The award is named to commemorate the lifetime of service that Dr. Sexton has dedicated to Montana State University Billings. He graduated from EMC, the predecessor of MSUB, with a B.S. in 1959 and an M.S. in 1964. After earning his Ph.D. at the University of Oregon in 1971, he taught at Central Michigan University for seven years. He returned home in 1977 as a professor in the School of Education and director of the EMC Institute for Habilitative Services. In 1987, Dr. Sexton was named EMC’s academic vice president and professor of special education and reading. He became acting chancellor in 1994, was appointed chancellor in 1995, and served in that capacity until 2010.

This award will recognize alumni, who, like Dr. Sexton, have demonstrated excellence in their work and have exemplified a passionate commitment to MSU Billings and its students.
