The MSUB Police Department has partnered with the Billings Police Department in hosting a Women’s Personal Safety event. The event will be held in the upper gym of the PE Building. Over the next few days there will be more – stay tuned.
The event will be held on Thursday, July 18th, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the upper gymnasium of the PE Building.
This event is free and is a women’s only invitation. Please park in the Cisel Lot, or in the Parking Garage and utilize the tunnel to cross 27th street. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. If you are so inclined, you will be afforded an opportunity to engage in hand to hand contact training.
The first hour will consist of two presentations. First from Billings Police Crime Prevention Officer Tom Keightley. He will provide information pertaining to proactive measures for women to stay safe (at home and around town). Following Officer Keightley, MSU Billings Health Educator Triniti Halverson will provide instruction on bystander intervention (how to keep other women safe).
The second hour will be with Gracie style Jiu-Jitsu instructor and Billings Police Officer Shane Weinreis. He will provide an introduction to reactive measures and an introduction to Gracie Self Defense techniques for women, learning simple, effective methods for defending yourself against a larger, stronger attacker. Billings Police Officers Bethany Schwartz and Samantha Puckett will also be on hand for demonstrations and answering questions. Afterward attendees will be allowed to pair-up and practice the instructed techniques.
