You are encouraged to get involved in at least one student organization during your collegiate career. For information regarding participation in a student organization, contact the Student Union & Activities Office, Room 219 in the Student Union or call (406) 657-2387.

Montana State University Billings currently has approximately 50 active chartered student organizations on campus.

Contact Information

There are two ways to contact an officer or advisor of a particular organization. 

1. Leave a written message in a student organization mailbox.  Mailboxes for all active student organizations are located in the Student Organization Resource/Work Room, Student Union Room 220.

2. Contact the Student Union & Activities Office for specific information.  A current computer database is main­tained on all active student organizations.  Information for the current academic year is collected from student organizations in September.  Current information is entered into the student organization database as it is submitted by organization officers.

Getting Involved in an Organization

Membership eligibility in student organizations is based on interest and in some cases on academic achievement.  Student organization officers must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in order to hold office.  Students are encouraged to affiliate with at least one student organization during their college career.

New students at MSU Billings who completed and returned a Student Organization Interest Form will have their name forwarded to groups selected.  If you do not hear from a par­ticular student organization that you have expressed an interest in, please contact the Student Union & Activities Office for specific contact information.

MSU Billings students are given an opportunity to complete and return a Student Organization Interest Form. When you return a completed form, your interests are entered into a special member recruitment database. In the fall, interest lists including new students’ names and addresses are run and then passed on to specific organizations.

Organizations are encouraged to contact you personally regarding membership.

Starting a New Student Organization

Starting a new student organization can seem very intimidating, in reality it is a very simple process and the Student Union and Activities Office is ready and waiting to help. Just follow these four steps:

1. Recruit a minimum of five members who are currently enrolled students at MSU Billings

2. Secure a Faculty or Staff Advisor affiliated with the University

3. Complete the required forms (available in the SUB Office or via links at above)

4. Create a constitution

To reactivate an inactive student organization, the same process applies, however there may be an old constitution on file that you can update. To determine what organizations are available for reactivation, contact the student union office, 657-2387.
